Argentina stuns New Zealand

Chennai: Argentina upset New Zealand by three goals to one to forge ahead to the top of the table with 12 points in the first of the three hockey Olympic qualifiers at Auckland on Wednesday. The winner of the six-team event qualifies for the Olympics in Beijing.

Argentina led 2-0 at half-time before making it 3-1 to record its fourth successive win.

In other matches, France beat Trinidad and Tobago 5-2 (HT 3-1), while Ireland walloped United States 8-0 (HT 3-0).

After a two-day break the event resumes on Saturday. — Special Correspondent
