Agartala: Altogether 365 candidates have filed their nominations for the February 23 elections to total 60 assembly seats in Tripura, after the last date for filing of nominations ended on Wednesday. This was stated by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) G. S. G Ayyangar. Nominations will be scrutinised on Thursday while the last date for withdrawing nominations is February 9. A major partner of the ruling Left Front, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) will be contesting in 56 seats while its other partners the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Revolutionary Socialist Party(RSP) will be contesting in two seats each. Of the opposition Congress- Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra (INPT) combine, the Congress will be contesting in 49 seats while the INPT will be contesting in 11 seats. The Forward Block, which had quit the Left Front recently fielded candidates for 12 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party in 49, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in five, Amara Bengali in 20, CPI (ML-Liberation) in 13 and 81 independents have filed their nominations.
