‘Water supply erratic and sanitation work shoddy’ Residents threaten to intensify agitation BANGALORE: Residents of Rajajinagar VI Block sat on a dharna on Wednesday seeking proper water supply to the area and better sanitation facilities. Over 350 residents, led by freedom fighter K. Rama Rao, sat near Prasanna cinema and threatened to disrupt traffic in case their demands were not met. R. Guruprasad, a member of Rajajinagar 6th Block Residents Association, said that water supply to the area that had around 3,800 houses had been erratic and sanitation work was shoddy. He said the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) had undertaken works on sanitation pipeline, which had not been done properly. “The result of the shoddy work was that the sanitation pipeline got choked often leading to foul smell in the area. Despite many petitions, the BWSSB has ignored our requests,” he said. The residents withdrew their protest only after BWSSB Executive Engineer Shivanand came to the spot and assured them that the problems pertaining to water supply and sanitation would be sorted out within three days. Residents said they would intensify their protest in case the BWSSB reneged on its promise. The former corporator of Ward Number 21 Gangabairaiah took part in the protest.
