Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy has decided to ensure payment of Rs. 50,000 to each of the four families, that were victims of a landslip in Idukki in 2006. Mr. Chandy said Rs. 50,000 each would be given to four women who lost their bread-winners in Udumbanchola. Their husbands were buried alive while working in a well. Mr. Chandy said he would distribute the assistance to the families on February 18 at a function to be held in Udumbanchola. He protested against the LDF government’s failure to release assistance to even one of the 52,000 applicants approved by his government for assistance from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The usual practice was for governments to fulfil the commitments of its predecessors. He had sent letters to the Chief Minister repeatedly on this issue, but they failed to evoke a favourable response.
