Alleged criminal held

NEW DELHI: An alleged criminal was arrested following a brief encounter with the Special Cell of the Delhi police at Lado Sarai here on Tuesday. A .32 bore pistol and five live cartridges were seized from him, the police said.

The Special Cell received a tip-off recently that Mehraj Khan, who was involved in 10 criminal cases including murderous assault on an Assistant Superintendent of Police of Vadodara at Etah in U.P. last August, would come to Lado Sarai on Tuesday evening to meet someone. Subsequently the police intercepted him near a bus shelter, at which he allegedly fired at them. The policemen fired in retaliation and overpowered him. He was identified as Mehraj Khan.
