Sex education panel visits schools

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Sex education is both a complex and a subtle issue that needs to be handled carefully. The Parliamentary Committee on Petitions, set up to review its implementation in schools, has received 80,000 representations. The committee on Wednesday visited BBUL Jain Vidyalaya and Government Pre-University Girls’ College in Basavanagudi to see how the issue is handled.

M. Venkaiah Naidu, chairman of the committee, said, “We discussed the issue with officials, teachers, parents, religious leaders, MLCs, and psychologists. While a section is vehemently against the introduction, a few are demanding a revision of the study material formulated for the programme.”
