Robbers knock down motorcyclist, snatch cash

BANGALORE: Four motorcycle-borne robbers snatched a bag containing Rs. 70,000 from the manager of a supermarket in MICO Layout Police Station limits on Tuesday night.

The robbers, who were riding two motorcycles, hit the two-wheeler of the victim. As he fell, they snatched his bag and sped away.

According to police, Sajjid Mathew, purchase manager with Food Day in BTM Layout, was riding towards his employer’s house after closing the outlet at 9.30 p.m. The robbers intercepted his two-wheeler on 16th Main, BTM II Stage, and snatched the bag from him.

House burgled

Burglars broke into the house of an ITPL employee and looted valuables worth Rs. 50,000 in HAL Police Station limits on Tuesday.

In his complaint to police, Venkatesan said he had gone for work at 11 a.m., and when he returned home at 8 p.m., he found the house burgled. HAL police have registered a case.

Dies of burns

Sunanda (18), a II PU student, who had attempted suicide by immolation on February 2 in Yelahanka Police Station limits, died of injuries at the Victoria Hospital on Tuesday.

The victim was a student of Government College, Yelahanka, and daughter of Thyagaraj, an autorickshaw driver.

It was alleged that Hanumantha had teased her while she was returning home from college recently and she attempted suicide by dousing kerosene and setting herself on fire early on Saturday.

In another incident, Prema (20), wife of Nagaraj, resident of Nanjappa Layout in Adugodi Police Station limits, allegedly committed suicide by self-immolation on Tuesday. The couple got married just two months ago, the police said.

Painter stabbed to death

A painter was stabbed to death and two of his colleagues sustained severe stab wounds when an inebriated group quarrelled in Ramanagaram Police Station limits on Tuesday night.

The police gave the name of the deceased as Shivarama and the injured as Andani and Anand, all residents of Konkanidoddi in Ramanagaram taluk. According to police, the three were returning home after their day’s painting work at Basavanapura. When they were nearing a Dhaba at Vaderahalli, the inebriated miscreants hit the three and a quarrel ensued. The miscreants attacked the three with knives and screwdrivers leaving Shivarama dead and the two injured. While Andani is admitted in a private hospital in Bangalore, Anand is being treated at Ramanagaram Government Hospital.
