PUDUCHERRY: Fostering a creative environment for children is important for several reasons, particularly enabling them to bring out their hidden talents and capability to solve problems. Above all such an effort provides them mental strength and confidence. The message seems to have gone down well with a good number of schools.

It was the turn of students belonging to ‘The Study’ at Kalapet on the outskirts of the town, to show their scientific temper and creative talents. “Art and Science Expo 2008,” an annual event of the school, got under way on its campus on Thursday.

Models of a “smoking” volcano, of Agni missile cruising from the launch pad, power stations and burglars alarm made by the students adorned the classrooms of the school.

The students from kindergarten to Class V also made powerpoint presentation on subjects such as pets, seasons, how rain drops are formed, life cycle of butterflies, farm animals and a vista on the activities of the school. It was interesting to watch and listen to the presentations made by students with ease and confidence. Children also displayed their artistic talent by sketching different subjects in water colour and crayons.

On the occasion, the school was transformed into an aquarium with marine species such as mermaids on display.

The expo, which is on till Friday, was thrown open to the students of other schools in the town and neighbouring districts of Tamil Nadu.

In her address, chief guest I. Wahita Shahjahan stressed the need for giving practical exposure to students to equip them to face the stiff competition in the job market.

Principal of the school Alice Kisku said such exhibitions would give the students an opportunity to express subjects that they have learnt in the classroom.
