A book to be read by every woman

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: A book on Dana Chintamani Attimabbe, 10th century patron of literature, is now available in Tulu.

Translated work

The work in Kannada by Hampa Nagarajaiah has been translated into Tulu by Amruta Malla of Aliyur in Karkala taluk.

Attimabbe’s life and work has been outlined in Ponna’s Shanti Purana, Ranna’s Ajita Purana and the inscriptions at Lakkundi, according to Dr. Malla.

Dr. Malla says that Attimabbe was from the region where Tulu is spoken.

This inspired him to bring out Danamani Athimabbe in Tulu, Dr. Malla says. The preface to the book has been written by Hemavathi Heggade of Dharmasthala.

In her preface, Ms. Heggade says that Danamani Athimabbe has to be read by every woman as Attimabbe crusaded for the well-being of the people, and took forward Jainism at a time when it was facing a threat.
