Chandigarh: Several employees owing allegiance to joint forum of employees union of Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) on Thursday held a day-long strike to protest the proposed unbundling of the board even as the power supply across the state remained normal. The striking power men were joined by various organisations of farmers, including Bharti Kisan Union (BKU-Ekta), Kisan Sangarsh Committee, Kirti Kisan Sabha, Dehati Mazdoor Morcha, Punjab Kisan Sabha and Punjab Khet Mazdoor Sabha. While the power men mostly class three employees opposed the proposed move of the Government to unbundle the PSEB as per the Electricity Act 2003, the farmers demanded that the subsidy extended by the Parkash Singh Badal Government to the peasantry in view of hike in power tariff must continue. As part of the protest power men and peasants held rallies, marches and demonstrations at various places across the state. However, the power supply in the state was normal, a PSEB spokesman said here. - PTI
