Low-flying jet sends Tirupattur residents into a tailspin

Staff Reporter

TIRUPATTUR: The residents of Tirupattur in Vellore district were driven to panic on Wednesday when noise and vibrations from a low-flying jet rang round the town and nearby villages.

At Annandapatti, three to four km from Tirupattur, residents said they saw a low-flying jet which started to descend over a field before it changed course and roared skyward. Students at a local school said they could see “smoke and fire” coming out of the jet’s fuselage.

The sound and vibrations were felt several miles away, creating confusion and alarm.

Residents at Jolarpet, 8 km away from Tiruputtur, said that they heard loud, blasting sounds, while the vibrations were felt even 14 km away in Kandilli.
