Bankers urged to aid SHGs liberally

Chittoor: Municipal Chairperson Sarala Mary urged bankers on Wednesday to sanction loans liberally to self-help groups so as to enable them to carry out their activities effectively to earn profits and to strengthen their economic standards.
Addressing a review meeting of town-level bankers, Municipal Commissioner Charles Umapathi said that 983 SHGs in the town had been sanctioned loans under banks linkage programme besides sanction of loans to the newly formed groups.
In addition to this, 17 SHGs comprising physically handicapped persons were sanctioned loans to the tune of 6.25 lakh against 78 groups. He said that the municipal officers would cooperate with the bankers in the recovery of loans if they sought.
