Rewards for tip-offs on illegal transportation of rice

Identity of informants will not be disclosed, says Collector

Krishnagiri: The District Administration will provide cash awards to those who give information about illegal transportation of ration rice and other essential commodities under the Public Distribution System (PDS), according to Collector Santhosh Babu.

Similarly, a cash award will be given to those who give information about bogus ration cards. The identity of the persons would not be disclosed.

People could contact on the following numbers to provide information on illegal transportation of ration rice: District Supply Officer – 94450 00396, Taluk Supply Officer (Krishnagiri) – 94450 00397, Uthangarai – 94450 00398, Pochampalli – 94450 00399, Hosur – 94450 00400, Denkanikottai – 94450 00401, and Special Tahsildar (PDS) – 98656 02236.

The district administration would initiate stern action against those illegally transporting the goods meant for sale under the public distribution system.

Black market

It was brought to the notice of the administration that a few cardholders were selling the PDS goods in the black market.

Selling the PDS goods in the market or buying them from cardholders was a serious offence, the Collector said.

Mr. Babu said the Cooperative Department was closely monitoring the functioning of fair price shops in the district.

The maintenance of records and the quantity of PDS goods distributed to the cardholders were monitored by the officials.

Disciplinary action would be initiated against the salesmen, if they were found committing irregularities, he warned.

The district administration has also established a control room in the office of the Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies, in order to prevent illegal transportation of essential commodities under the public distribution system (PDS) and to monitor the functioning of fair price shops located in various parts of the district.
