Puducherry-Villupuram shuttle service from today

It will continue, based on the response from passengers


First train to leave Puducherry at 8 am, second at 4 pm and the third, 6.40 pm

Fare will be Rs.8, monthly season ticket Rs.145 and for three months, Rs.395


PUDUCHERRY: The new shuttle service between Puducherry and Villupuram will be launched on Friday, according to Member of Parliament M.Ramadass.

In a statement here, he said the Railway Ministry had given its sanction for the introduction of the new passenger train service.

Commuters including school and college students and office-goers would benefit from the first train that would leave the Puducherry Railway Station at 8 am and reach the Villupuram Junction at 8.50 a.m.

The service would also provide connectivity to the Tiruchi-Chennai Pallavan Express and the Chennai-Guruvayur Express, he said.

The train would return from Villupuram at 9.30 a.m. and reach Puducherry at 10.20 a.m.

The departure time of the second service from Puducherry would be 4 pm and the train would reach Villupuram at 4.50 pm, providing connectivity for the Howrah Express and the Guruvayur-Chennai Express.

In the opposite direction, the train would leave Villupuram at 5.20 pm and reach Puducherry at 6.10 pm.

This would be of much help to the commuters, particularly students and employees.

The third shuttle service would leave Puducherry at 6.40 pm and reach Villupuram at 7.30 pm.

This would benefit passengers bound for Tiruchi, Madurai, Rameswaram, Kanyakumari, Tenkasi and Thiruvananthapuram with this service providing connectivity for the Pallavan, Rameswaram, Kanyakumari, Anantapuri and Pothigai express trains, Mr.Ramadass said.

The shuttle service would take 50 minutes to reach the destination and stop at Villianur, Chinnababusamuthram and Valavanur.

The fare would be Rs.8 and the monthly season ticket would cost Rs.145 and for three months, Rs.395, he said.

If the passengers did not avail themselves of the shuttle service, the Railways would review its decision on continuing it, Mr. Ramadass said, adding that consequent to the introduction of the new service, the two train services from Puducherry station having 4.10 am and 10.15 pm as departure time would be cancelled.
