PUDUCHERRY: The Pondicherry Modern Rice Mill Owners’ Association on Thursday sought the intervention of Chief Minister N. Rangasamy to enable legal transportation of rice from the Union Territory to Kerala without hassles. In a memorandum to the Chief Minister, president of the association R.Yuvaraj said the rice mills in Puducherry purchased paddy varieties such as ADT 37 and CR 1009 after paying cess. After processing, they transported the rice to Kerala for sales. When the trucks crossed Tamil Nadu, officials of the State seized the legally transported cargo and foisted cases against the mill owners, he alleged. He pleaded with the Union Territory government to issue necessary permit such as loading confirmation letter or way permit for every genuine consignment to protect the mill owners.
