‘Allow screening of children’s films on weekends’
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: All public auditoriums must be left free on Saturdays and Sundays for screening of children’s films, said N.R. Nanjunde Gowda, president of the Children’s Film Festival of India 2008 festival committee.
Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Gowda said that leaving public auditoriums free on weekends would not only provide entertainment for children. It would also help promote the making of children’s films in a big way.
High expectations
“We cannot expect the Government to build theatres for the purpose of screening children’s films in every district. We cannot ask the private sector to fund this initiative either,” he said.
He added that the State Government should extend the Rs. 25-lakh subsidy it provides to children’s films, from two to four films a year.
