This Day That Age
The President of the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam, Dr. Ho Chi-minh, expressed his full agreement with Prime Minister Nehru “in supporting the Soviet proposals for a conference of leaders of various countries with a view to strengthening international cooperation and mutual confidence to preserve world peace.” Dr. Ho was speaking at a banquet given in his honour by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, President of India, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on February 6. Dr. Ho emphasised that Viet Nam stood for general disarmament, prohibition of tests and use of atomic and hydrogen weapons, and to make a contribution to the cause of world peace. He expressed regret that on account of colonialist interference, national reunification by free general elections, as provided for in the Geneva Agreements, had not yet been realised. Dr. Ho thanked India for the role she has played as Chairman of the International Supervisory Commission under the Geneva Agreement for Viet Nam.
