dated February 8, 1958: Charles Morgan dead

Mr. Charles Morgan, leading British author and playwright, died suddenly in London on February 6, aged 64. Charles Morgan’s novels, dealing with the conflict between the spirit and the flesh and pervaded with a mystical sense, won him a large literary public, although his books did not as a rule appeal to the masses. His best known novels were Portrait in a Mirror which won the Femina-vie Heureuse Prize for 1930 and The Fountain, which won the Hawthornden Prize for 1933. In 1940 The Voyage won him the James Tait Black Memorial Book prize.
