Students have created innovative models within the purview of their syllabus Fourteen other schools are also participating in the exhibition
Demonstration: Students of SJM Vidyapeetha at the science exhibition in Chitradurga on Thursday. Chitradurga: A three-day science exhibition being held at SJM Vidyapeetha shows how a little effort from teachers can make learning a fun exercise for students. The exhibition, which is based on the concept of “Text to trail”, aims at making the school syllabus pragmatic and simple for better understanding. Over 1,000 students from kindergarten to class X are participating in the exhibition. They have prepared over 300 models on various subjects from their syllabus. “We wanted to make learning more practical-oriented in order to evoke interest among the students for the subjects and also make them grasp the subjects easily,” said executive director of the school G. N. Mallikarjunappa. He said that students of each class were divided into teams of five. Each team was asked to prepare a model based on any lesson from the syllabus, with the help of teachers. This way, the students got a chance to visualise the subject and come up with their own idea of presenting it. The teachers guided the students, he said. The students have displayed innovative models at the exhibition. They include a miniature model on the importance of ecology created by Class IV students. The model has miniature forests, paddy fields and an industry. “It took over 20 days for us to create this model as we had to sow wheat and wait for the seed to grow,” said G.K. Rajshekhar, a Class IV student. Class III students have come up with models depicting the importance of polio vaccination. The school has also invited students of other schools to participate in the exhibition. Students from 14 schools have exhibited models. A tsunami detector, one of the most striking models, was presented by Don Bosco English-medium School. The model explains how heavy casualties can be prevented by sending warning signals. The exhibition will be end on Friday.
