CPI(M) State Congress to deliberate on Left unity

B.V. Raghavulu

HYDERABAD: Although it has differences with the CPI over the separate Telangana issue, the CPI(M) feels that the former’s stand on the struggle against the government’s anti-people policies will be the deciding factor for Left unity in the State. The CPI(M) has decided to go all out against the Government, but the CPI is yet to clarify its stand on whether it is opposing or supporting the policies being adopted by the State.

“The CPI’s stand will be the deciding factor for the political unity among the two Left parties. The other issues including the differences on separate Telangana will be relegated to the backseat once this is accomplished,” CPI(M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu said. Speaking to The Hindu ahead of the party’s State Congress commencing on Friday, he said the party would take up a detailed discussion on the issue during the three-day event. It would also discuss the movements that should be launched for regularisation of services of contract labour working in Government departments, third phase of land struggle and the Government’s move to deploy settlement officers to claim lands from tribals.

Mr. Raghavulu said it was unlikely that the State Congress would debate the possible electoral alliances as the Central leadership had already released the draft political resolution favouring efforts for formation of an alternative to the Congress and the BJP.
