Ramesh at Panchkula, Haryana, on Thursday. BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Housing Corporation (KSPHC), having completed the construction of nearly 10,000 quarters for policemen since 1999, will construct 6,000 more in next three years at an approximate cost of Rs. 440 crore. Of the 6,000 quarters sanctioned under Accelerated Housing (AHS) Scheme III, 5,400 will be for police constables and 600 for police sub-inspectors. Corporation Chairman and Managing Director R. Srikumar told presspersons here on Thursday that the Government sanction to this effect was received on Wednesday. The finance would be arranged through financial institutions against government guarantee and repayment would be ensured by budgetary provision. While the corporation would take up construction of 4,000 quarters immediately so as to complete them by March 2009, the rest would be constructed by March 2010, he said. Under AHS I sanctioned in 1999, KSPHC constructed 5,056 quarters at a cost of Rs. 162.3 crore by 2003. Under AHS II for 5,000 quarters sanctioned in 2003 at a projected cost of Rs. 180 crore, the corporation would complete the construction by March 2008 at a cost of Rs. 150 crore. The savings of Rs. 30 crore would be utilised for other building projects, including the city Police Commissioner’s office in Bangalore. While the initial sanction for the commissioner’s office was Rs. 2 crore, the KSPHC revised the estimate and spend Rs. 18 crore. AwardMr. Srikumar said the corporation, which had been pioneering in e-governance and implementation of web-based project management, had got the national award for Innovative Usage of Technology in e-governance. KSPHC Chief Engineer N.S. Ramesh and Executive Engineer (Systems) Syed Nayeem Ahmed received the award comprising a bronze icon and a certificate from Union Communication Minister A. Raja at Panchkula in Haryana on Thursday.
