‘Educate masses against superstition’

Staff Reporter

SANGAREDDY: Medak Collector B.Venkatesam addressing the valedictory of the three-day workshop on ‘Behavioural change and communications’ asked the master trainers to use their communication skills to educate the gullible rural folk steeped in superstition.

The work shop was organised with the collaboration of UNICEF through the BCC project launched in the district eight months ago. Fifty of the candidates selected for the master trainer programme completed their training. The Collector urged the trainers to repeat the message time and again so that the illiterate start understanding it and then implement the advise.

He said that issues like child care, nutrition, hygiene, prevention of HIV, education, child marriages and institutional deliveries must be taught to people so that it would bring desired behavioural changes in them. UNICEF coordinator Hari Jawahar informed that the BCC cell has so far completed its work in 653 villages of 28 mandals since its inception and the cell has set a target of 1000 villages in 18 mandals this year. The plan for this year envisages coordinating with various government departments.
