BERHAMPUR: Berhampur university campus remained tense on Thursday following an attack on a student and the police action following it. According to police sources, a student of Journalism department was attacked by some youths on Wednesday evening. As per the complaint filed by the victim with the police, his attackers included some students and non-students. Police detained a student in relation to the incident. This irked a group of students of the university. These students held demonstration on the campus demanding immediate release of the student detained by the police. They also met Vice-Chancellor of the university B. K. Sahu over the matter. They threatened to intensify their agitation from Friday if the student taken into custody was not released unconditionally by the police. The Vice-Chancellor said the agitating students had not been pacified despite talks. He wrote to the district administration and police for maintenance of law and order on the campus. According to him the whole issue was a legal matter and the law would take its own course. Mr Sahu said all examinations were conducted as per schedule on Thursday.
