HYDERABAD: The State Bank of India on Thursday donated Rs. 20 lakh to the city-based Pushpagiri Vitreo Retina Institute for purchase of specialised equipment.
In a press release, SBI’s Chief General Manager R.K. Sharma said community services banking was one of the methods using which the bank fulfilled its corporate social responsibility.
The donation he said, indicated the bank’s commitment to society in general and specifically to the less-fortunate, underprivileged.
Cheque presented
Mr. Sharma handed over the cheque at a simple function on Thursday to Dr. K. Vishwanath, General Manager of Pushpagiri Vitreo Retina Institute.
Adoptions
He also said the bank’s Hyderabad Circle recently adopted 800 girls who were academically bright but economically backward under the ‘Adoption of Girl Child’ programme and given away Rs. 5,000 each to the children for expenses during the year.
The amount to the Pushpagiri Vitreo Retina Institute would help purchase an optical coherence tonography machine for comprehensive treatment of ophthalmic problems faced by poor patients. The institute provides holistic eye care for economically and physically-challenged persons and also provides paediatric care.
