Polio immunisation from Feb. 10 to 13

HYDERABAD: Yet another round of Pulse Polio Immunisation (PPI) programme is being taken up in the State from February 10 to 13 to completely eradicate polio virus in Andhra Pradesh.

Announcing the details of the programme at a press conference here on Thursday, Health & Family Welfare Minister S. Chandrasekhar, and department’s Commissioner Anil Punetha called upon parents to avail of the opportunity by getting polio vaccine administered to their children aged up to five years.

Mr. Chandrasekhar said on the fist day (February 10), polio drop would be administered to children at booths. Mothers would have to bring the children to these booths. On the second and third days (February 11and 12), those children who missed the chance on the first day would be covered under a house-to-house visits by volunteers.

On the fourth day (February 13), the immunisation programme would be undertaken in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Guntur, Kurnool and Warangal.

The Minister said they had drawn up a plan to cover over 99 lakh children this time. In all, 63,531 polio booths and 1,849 mobile teams would function for the programme.
