CHENNAI: The State government will strive to provide 20 lakh jobs in the information technology and IT enabled services sector before the end of five-year tenure of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam regime, said Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi here on Thursday.

Inaugurating an offshore development centre of Jeevan Technologies at the DLF IT Park at Ramapuram, Mr. Karunanidhi said there was a 47 per cent growth in the IT sector in the State with more than 20 industrial units already established and commencing operations. The government was on the threshold of clearing three or four more new industrial units and efforts were on to encourage more to set up units. He said 1,30,000 jobs had been created.

The government, Mr. Karunanidhi said, would continue to adopt a pro-active approach and policies to encourage more companies to set up their establishments in the State.

Transport Minister K.N. Nehru said Jeevan Technologies chairman D. Napoleon, hailing from a farming community, had steadily risen in business, film, and political fields with the support of Mr. Karunanidhi.

DLF Group Executive Director Rajeev Talwar thanked the Chief Minister for the investment friendly climate in the State. He said nearly Rs.20,000-crore worth of DLF projects were in different stages of progress in Tamil Nadu. The company would create more employment opportunities.

Actor Kamal Hassan launched Jeevan’s new software product, www.myfotobiz.com. Mr. Napoleon donated an electric car to the Chief Minister on the occasion. He said he owed his personal and political career to Mr. Karunanidhi and the DMK. Cabinet colleagues of Mr. Karunanidhi, DMK party functionaries and actor Sathyaraj participated.
