Madurai DCA in finalMadurai DCA entered the final of the TNCA inter-district under-13 cricket tournament by spin of coin after the semifinal against Tiruvallur DCA ended in a draw. S. Harish Babu made 117 as Tiruvallur finished the second day on 205 for nine in reply to Madurai’s 239. R. David took five for 49 for Madurai. The scores: Madurai 239 in 117.5 overs (J. Prasanna Venkatesh 148, Ateeq Fazal 29, L. Varun four for 52, L. Ganesh Lingam three for 46) drew with Tiruvallur 205 for nine in 66 overs (S. Harish Babu 117, L. Varun 25, Akshay P. Rai 30, R. David five for 49). Tiruvallur wins titleTiruvallur defeated Tiruchi by seven wickets to win the TNCA u-22 inter-district cricket final at Tiruchi on Thursday. Resuming at 57 for four, Tiruchi was dismissed for 200 in its second innings, with P. Shijith Chandran returning a six-wicket haul. Needing 72 to win, Tiruvallur scored the required runs in 18.5 overs losing three wickets. The scores (final): Tiruchi 189 & 200 in 52.2 overs (M. Saravanan 44, P. Shijith Chandran six for 65) lost to Tiruvallur 318 & 73 for three in 18.5 overs. Coimbatore triumphsAt Coimbatore, a first innings lead of 22 runs enabled host Coimbatore defeat Kancheepuram and emerged champion in the TNCA under-19 inter-district cricket tournament at the SNR Sons grounds here. Kancheepuram was well poised to take the lead at 272 for four. Then, K.R. Sethumadhavan (four for 80) came up with a timely spell to turn the tide in Coimbatore’s favour. The scores: Final: Coimbatore 336 & 152 for three in 34 overs (R. Hariprasad 43, Soham Desai 39 not out) drew with Kancheepuram 314 in 103 overs (Srivatsan 55, Kevin Sukumar 133, Ashwin Kumar 55, K.R. Sethumadhavan four for 80). Coimbatore won by virtue of first innings lead.
