DAREDEVIL: Preeth, a blindfolded youth, riding his bike as part of a traffic safety awareness drive in the city on Thursday. — THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: “If a blindfolded two wheeler rider can drive safely through the city roads, why can’t you?” That was the message sought to be conveyed by the daring act undertaken by young magician Preeth here on Thursday. The 26-year-old youngster rode his motorcycle through the congested road from Statue junction to the Gandhi Park at East Fort to prove his point. The event was organised by the City Traffic Police and the Academy of Magical Sciences as part of a traffic safety and awareness campaign. Preeth, who suffers from a congenital hearing impairment, is a computer animator and a student of the Academy of Magical Sciences. A diploma holder in electronics, he is employed at a Technopark-based company. Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan blindfolded the young magician and flagged off the ride at a simple function held in front of the Secretariat. V.Sivankutty, M.L.A., executive director of the Academy of Magical Sciences Gopinath Muthukad, Inspector-General of Police Arunkumar Sinha, City Police Commissioner Ravada Chandrasekhar and senior police officials participated in the function. People lined both sides of the road to witness the blindfolded youth negotiating the traffic skilfully.
