Canadian firm to train pilots

NEW DELHI: To tide over the shortage of pilots, the Government on Thursday signed two contracts with a global organisation.
The pilot training body, Canada-based CAE, will help manage the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Academy (IGRUA) in Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh and develop a training institute at Gondia in Maharashtra.
Managing partner
One contract relates to making it the managing partner at the IGRUA and the other to launch a joint venture with Airports Authority of India (AAI) to set up the Rajiv Gandhi National Flying Training Institute (RGNFTI) at Gondia. The foundation stone of the RGNFTI will be laid by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday.
Civil Aviation Secretary Ashok Chawla later told reporters that the contracts would bring consolidate efforts to upgrade pilot training facilities in India.
