Letters to the Editor
P. Sainath's tribute to R.K. Karanjia (Feb. 6) did not mention that the famous April Fool story about the sale of Indian Express to Maharashtra Chief Minister A.R. Antulay was done by this writer under the pseudonym Trishanku. In fact, Trishanku wrote regular columns for The Daily and Blitz for several years. It was a delight to work for RKK who was among the few editors who appreciated satire. V. Gangadhar,Mumbai One cannot entirely agree with the accolades heaped on Karanjia. His writings were acerbic and biting only when the subjects were from the non-Left of the political spectrum - they included politicians such as Morarji Desai, S.K. Patil, C. Rajagopalachari, Acharya Kripalani and others. His praise for Krishna Menon was an outcome of his adoration of the Left. The Blitz called the Acharya Kripaloony (during and after the famous election battle in Bombay - Kripalani versus Menon), and Rajaji a stooge of the West and so on. Karanjia was entitled to peddle his political beliefs but he stooped to banality and titillation. Jay Ravi,Toronto
