Science exhibition begins

Students from 80 schools display models

SALEM: The four-day Science Quest Expo 08 and Open House, which aims to kindle curiosity and interest in science among school students, has got underway at the V.M.K.V. Engineering College here on Friday.

Students from 80 schools in the district have displayed over 200 working models and information charts on various science concepts. Several models showcased the application of science and technology in daily life.

Besides, the students of the college exhibited 150 models explaining modern technologies. Many of these models, based on emerging fields such as biotechnology and information technology, have given the school students an opportunity get a peep into the future. Models based on robotics provides visual treat to the students.

The college has also opened up its laboratories for the visitors. The advanced science equipment have attracted a large number of visitors on the first day.

The students are also conducting demonstrations on various science concepts.

The event also aims at promoting the activity based learning methodology, which requires more participation from the students in the teaching and learning process. Organisers said that the exhibition had presented an opportunity for the school students to showcase their creative talents.

It would encourage them to come up with for more innovations thus helping the country become self-reliant in science and technology.

Collector N. Mathivanan inaugurated the exhibition. Veerapandi MLA A. Raja, Mayor J. Rekha Priyadarshini, Vinayaka Missions University Chancellor A. Shanmugasundaram, College Dean A. Nagappan, Principal N. Malmurugan were present.
