Delimitation sparks off hectic activity

Staff Reporter

Major parties eye the newly-formed Patancheru Assembly segment

Narsapur constituency gets Yeldurty and Kolcharam mandals

TRS, BJP step up party programmes in the industrial hub

Sangareddy: Patancheru, a conglomerate of one of the largest industrial estates in the State, has become a hot spot for all major political parties after it became an Assembly segment following the delimitation exercise. Earlier, Patancheru and Ramachandrapuram municipalities were part of Sangareddy Assembly segment and Jinnaram used to be a part of the Narsapur Assembly segment. As a result of the delimitation, the erstwhile Sangareddy is left with Kondapur and Sadasivapet and the Narsapur constituency gained Yeldurty and Kolcharam mandals.

CPI (M) confident

Speaking to The Hindu, district committee secretary of CPI (M) Chukka Ramulu said that the party which has a stronghold in the industrial belt through hopes to fare well in the newly-carved Patancheru segment. It also hopes to make inroads in another new segment Dubbaka that replaced Dommata, Gajwel and Narayanakhed. With the TRS district president M. Raghunandan Rao belonging to Patancheru, the party recently stepped up its activities. Shifting the base from district headquarters -- Sangareddy -- the TRS activists gheraoed three of the Congress Ministers, organised rasta rokos and hunger strikes from Patancheru itself. It is expected that TRS would field Raghunandan Rao from Patancheru, even though party sources point out that he is very much in the race for Medak Lok Sabha seat which is represented by A. Narendra.

On the other hand, the BJP which has considerable clout in the Rudraram and Isnapur pockets of Patancheru mandal, has launched a Telangana Sankranti programme exclusively for Patancheru segment. The competition within major rivals Congress and TDP is also intense. Congress MLC Bhoopal Reddy, TDP district secretary Sapan Dev are strong contenders for Patancheru.
