Man dies as football teams clash at Wandoor

Staff Reporter

MALAPPURAM: A 30-year-old man died following a clash between two local teams during a football match at Thazhemkode, near Wandoor, in the district on Friday evening. Police and hospital officials identified the victim as Nasar, belonging to Karakunnu between Manjeri and Wandoor.

However, it was yet to be ascertained whether Mr. Nasar died of injuries or cardiac arrest. Doctors who examined him at a private hospital at Wandoor found no external injuries on the body. The cause of death will be ascertained after an autopsy on Saturday.

Witnesses said the teams of Pulathu and Kattumunda came to blows around 6 p.m. over a minor issue at a local stadium at Thazhemkode. Mr. Nasar, who fell unconscious during the clash, was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
