Excisemen regain crown

KOCHI: Guest player Eudrick Pereira, along with the seasoned Sunny Thomas and Subash Shenoy, helped Central Excise (Kochi) defeat Thiruvananthapuram’s BSNL 78-67 and regain the men’s title in the 25th Thebasco Trophy South India basketball tournament at the Sacred Heart School floodlit court, Thevara, on Thursday night.

It was a tight contest for a major part of the match, with BSNL even leading 37-39, but Excise surged ahead strongly in the last quarter.

Eudrick, who comes from Thrissur’s Sree Kerala Varma College, was adjudged the tournament’s best player, while S.S. Deepu, also a guest player in the Excise team, was named the most promising player.

The result (final):

Men: Central Excise (Kochi) 78 (Eudrick Pereira 24, Sunny Thomas 22, Subash J. Shenoy 20) bt BSNL (Thiruvananthapuram) 67 (Rahul Krishna 19, Ullas 10, Vijobi Vakkachan 12, Bobit Mathew 11). — Principal Correspondent
