ELURU: The Andhra Pradesh MPTC Members’ Association has decided to launch a protest, seeking delegation of powers and funds, according to its president and MLC Yalamanchili Babu Rajendra Prasad. Speaking at a convention of MPTC members here on Friday, he said they would take up the ‘Gandhigiri’ programme from March 10 to 20 by applying ‘tilakam’ on the foreheads of MLAs, MPs, State and Central Ministers and garlanding them seeking their help in making the MPTC system more meaningful. On March 1, the members would undertake ‘bhikshatana’ (seeking alms) in all the district headquarters and the headquarters of Assembly constituencies in protest against the State Government’s alleged dilly-dallying over conceding the demands of the association. The movement to be launched by the association was only to help the MPTC members serve the people by striving for improvement of water supply, drainage system, sanitation, public health and education in villages, Mr. Rajendra Prasad said. SJRY fundsMeanwhile, the convention expressed its strong opposition to the government’s move to divert 22.5 per cent of Swarna Jayanti Rojgar Yojana (SJRY) funds for execution of the Indiramma housing programme. It urged the government to give up its proposal to re-introduce karanams and tehsildars.
