Staff Reporter

Six detonators, 21 gelatine sticks, ammunition seized

BERHAMPUR: The commandoes of the Special Operation Group (SOG) arrested six naxal supporters from forest near Kondapalli under Motu police station in Malkangiri district on Friday morning.

Six detonators, 21 gelatine sticks, gun powder, wires, banners and other naxal materials were seized from them. The arrested persons were Mukta Madiami, Ramprasad Sana, Sujay Dafador, Karam Sita, Ranjit Sarkar and Kariam Rama.

They were allegedly holding a meeting inside the Jhemiliguda jungle when the SOG jawans nabbed them.

Most of these persons were part of the network that the naxals use to get information and to prepare their logistics for the violent attacks. Some of them were doing white collar jobs to make their work for naxals easier. Ranjit was a teacher from MV-88 village under Motu police station. Sujay was a private health practitioner. Police also seized some anti-Naveen patnaik banners from the arrested persons which hinted at the possibility of their political links. Speaking to The Hindu over phone, Malkangiri SP S.K.Gajbhiye said all these arrested persons were linked to the hardcore naxals who had entered into an exchange of fire with the police on Jan 29. It was suspected that they were with the naxals when the encounter took place. Interrogation of arrested persons has revealed that on that day one naxal cadre Rajendra alias Raju had been killed and two other naxals, including a woman cadre were lethally injured.

Sujay had treated the injured. Mr Gajbhiye said the arrested persons were allegedly involved in the extortion network of the naxals. They were used as couriers of the outfit to collect extortion money.
