A new beginning: CMD of MTNL R.S.P. Sinha (left) along with CMD of Suvidha Anand Shrivastava at the launch of ’Suvidha Mobile Commerce’ service in New Delhi on Friday. NEW DELHI: Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) on Friday launched two new services to help subscribers pay their monthly bills without visiting the service provider’s offices or other payment centres. MTNL, in collaboration with Suvidha, the company providing mobile transactions and micro-payments services, will now accept the bills from its landline and mobile subscribers via mobile phones. Similarly, the State-run telecom company has also launched an online bill payment facility through Internet for its GSM subscribers. Launching the new service, MTNL Chairman and Managing Director R. S. P. Sinha said: “The M-commerce service enables mobile subscribers to view and pay their MTNL landline and mobile bills using SMS anytime from anywhere through their credit cards. To avail of the M-commerce facility, mobile subscribers need to send an SMS to 56545 or 09868156545 that will be charged at one rupee per message.” Mr. Sinha said the online payment service for mobile GSM subscribers can be utilised by the credit card holder to pay bills comfortably as per their own convenience. To avail of the service, subscribers can login to http://billalert.mtnl.net.in and make payments without any additional charges. According to Suvidha chairman and managing director Anand Shrivastav, the biggest advantage of this service lies in the ease and simplicity of making the payments using SMS and any mobile phone, thereby making it a very convenient mode. With a one-time free and paperless registration, MTNL subscribers need not wait for their landline and Dolphin bills as they can receive these by giving their telephone connection details on SMS, he added. Mr. Sinha also said that MTNL was preparing to give a boost to broadband connectivity and soon a tender for creating a capacity of 10-lakh new connections would be floated. MTNL is also planning to upgrade its broadband and Internet speed for better connectivity, he added.
