Call for collective decision-making in Left Front

Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: Leaders of three constituents of West Bengal’s ruling Left Front — the All India Forward Bloc, the Revolutionary Socialist Party and the Communist Party of India — at a meeting here on Friday underlined the need for collective decision-making in the Front.

Two days ago, Forward Bloc State secretary Ashok Ghosh said the Left Front was in “a moment of crisis” and it was “not the property of any particular party.”

The leaders expressed concern over the “partisan” role played by the administration and the police and called for corrective measures by the Home Department.

Earlier this week, the three parties condemned the Dinhata police firing on Forward Bloc demonstrators in which five were killed. One member of the National Volunteer Force died in clashes between AIFB activists and the police. The leaders demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident.
