FOR SMOOTH TRAFFIC: Eviction drive going on for the widening of Tirupur-Palladam road into four-lane.
TIRUPUR: Officials of highways department are busy in removing encroachments on either side of Palladam Road to make it four-lane.
Eviction has begun a couple of days ago and progressing fast.
Commuters’ woes
With the help of revenue and police officials, the highway authorities have removed encroachments on either side of the road from Santhaipet to Veerapandi Pirivu. Regular commuters using the road appealed to the authorities to complete the work in the stipulated time.
It was a difficult time for the motorists as the authorities dug up the road on the margins for 4-5 km as part of the Rs. 70-crore project.
Officials pointed out that removal of lamp posts, telephone cables and water pipes came in the way of widening work.
The delay in removal of street lights and other pipes was causing problems.
Passengers demanded a coordinated effort by officials of various departments to ensure early completion of the work.
