KOCHI: The Kerala State IT Mission (KSITM) will launch an online test engine called ‘Onesys’ to conduct various online tests through the Akshaya Centres set up all over the State. This is being done as part of the drive to impart IT education and services to the public. Onesys, the online competency testing and certificate mechanism, is prepared under the supervision of the State chapter of the Computer Society of India. . The engine will be used for conducting exams next month onwards. The online test engine will be used to conduct exams for courses given through Akshaya centres during the initial phase. The Akshaya Project is planning to start more than 10 courses, in addition to existing courses like e-vidya, Arabic typing tutor and basic Internet training. The need for a test engine for evaluating and certifying will arise when more students start taking these courses, said V.R. Ajith Kumar, director, Akshaya Project. There are plans to build a database of 10 lakh mock question papers for tests being conducted by bodies such as the Public Service Commission. This could be used for training by those appearing for PSC examinations and thus provide additional income for Akshaya entrepreneurs, he said. The question banks will be updated so as to simulate examination environment as in timed tests and on-the-spot results. Master trainers will be trained in every district to install and maintain client software needed for conducting tests.
