No need for CBI probe: Jaiswal

Special Correspondent

“U.P. Govt. has ordered a probe into recruitment scam”

Advani trying to create fear psychosis: Minister

“Internal security improved under UPA regime”

LUCKNOW: Union Minister of State for Home Sri Prakash Jaiswal has indicated that there is no need for a CBI inquiry into the alleged police recruitment scam in Uttar Pradesh.

Mr. Jaiswal said the Uttar Pradesh government had ordered an inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the recruitment of policemen, following which some police officers were suspended and later reinstated.

However, Mr. Jaiswal indicated that the CBI might take up the CD case allegedly involving some senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders.

CBI probe into the twin issues were recommended by Chief Minister Mayawati recently.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, the Union Minister said the CD issue was sensitive since the charges of spreading communal hatred was linked to it.

Reacting to the Leader of Opposition, L.K. Advani’s statement on internal security, Mr. Jaiswal said Mr. Advani was trying to create a fear psychosis. He said as compared to the situation under the NDA government, internal security had improved under the UPA regime. The Minister said the UPA government had successfully tackled the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, and controlled terrorism and Naxalite problem.

Mr. Jaiswal said the NDA leaders should tell the people under whose regime the terror attack on Parliament and Akshardham Temple took place. He said Mr. Advani should stop misleading the people and creating a fear psychosis.

He added since the UPA government came to power, four meetings of the Chief Ministers of naxal-affected States had been convened.

He said around 33,000 Central paramilitary force personnel were deployed in such States. Of these, 13,000 personnel were in Chhatisgarh.

“States’ responsibility”

He said maintenance of law and order was the responsibility of the State governments and the Centre could only allot paramilitary personnel on States’ demand.
