LoC posts not to be vacated

Sandeep Dikshit

NEW DELHI: Despite the heaviest snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir in the past five years, the Army will not be vacating its posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in view of the Assembly elections later this year.

“We want to keep infiltration [of militants] to the minimum. So, we are going to man almost all our posts, including the ‘winter-vacated’ posts,” said sources in the Army here.

Before the Kargil War, soldiers would climb down from all ‘winter-vacated’ posts around November and occupy them again when the weather conditions become favourable.
