THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Flower and Aquarium show-2008 will come to a close on Sunday. In addition to the organisers – the Kerala Agri-Horticultural Society, the Kerala Rose Society, the Matsyafed, the city Corporation and the Department of Tourism – a dozen aquarium owners, 11 nurseries and individuals are taking part in the show. Among the items on display that attracted particular attention were the six ‘model gardens.’ Yet another display that turned many a head was the strobilanthus, the ‘neelakkurinji,’ which blooms once in a dozen years. Also on display was a flower that has medicinal properties and is said to bring luck – the plumbago or the ‘neelakkoduveli.’ The display of cut flowers at the Institute of Engineers hall continues to attract a heavy rush. An official press note issued here said hybrid plant varieties brought for the show from Bangalore were now available for sale. Those interested should get in touch with the Rose Society stall set up near the ‘Amma Maharani mandapam’ on the Observatory hill premises, the note said.
