Striking: An artist explains her work to a visitor at the exhibition in Puducherry. PUDUCHERRY: An exhibition of paintings, mostly figurative ones, is on at the Alliance Francaise for the next two days. Artist Christy Veera, a former student of Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam in Puducherry, has used her canvas to express the varied moods of women. She has used mixed medium such as gesso, papers, different shades and textures in her paintings. Some of the works are done in oil colour on acrylic. One of the striking features of her works was the selection of colours. She has used dark shades such as lemon yellow, fresh colours and a mixture of crimson and dark blue colours. Christy said a lot of thought had gone into the selection of colours. The dark colours portrayed the depth of feeling. Another noticeable feature was the use of creepers in the works. The price ranges from Rs.500 for figurative portraits to Rs.45,000 for larger compositions. A winner at the 29th All India Annual Art Exhibition Lalit Kala Parishad in Merit Certificate at Visakhapatnam, in 2000, Christy has participated in several national painting exhibitions. She had also posted her pictures online at www.collectworldart.com for auction. Her works would soon be on display at expos in Lalith Kala Academy, Chennai, Chitra Kala, Bangalore, and Jahangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. The exhibition is on at Alliance Francaise at Colombani House 58, Suffren Street.
