‘Sacred music’ flows from here

“Music can soothe even a ferocious tiger. It melts rocks and bends the banyan tree. It inspires and strengthens you,”” says Fr. Sajan P.Mathew, director of Department of Sacred Music and Communications (DSMC) attached to the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar.

Fr. Sajan, a musician-turned sound engineer, has established the state-of-the-art Hi-Definition recording studio, perhaps, the first one of its kind in the State, at the DSMC complex on the SC Seminary Hills in the heart of Thiruvalla. He claims that the HD 5.1 DSMC studio, set up on January 3, 2003, is the first Digidesign ProTools HD3 installation in India.

Movies too

The studio has produced 75 devotional music albums, besides providing recording and mixing facility to various movies that won acclaim in the recent past.

Maramon Convention songs are being recorded at DSMC studios and it brings out 16 new songs during every convention period. Fr. Sajan studied Indian Music in Madras University and western Music in the US. Ajith Abraham George, a graduate from the Pune Film Institute and winner of 2005 Kerala State Film Award for best sound mixing for the movie ‘Albhutha-dweep,’ is the senior mixing engineer at DSMC studio.

Big-B, Arabikkatha and Rock ’n’ Roll are some of the Malayalam movies which had their music recorded and mixed at DSMC studios.

The studio complex also houses a multimedia centre with inhouse design suite and a modern CD copying unit, besides a music school that offers piano lessons of Associated Board of Royal School of Music in London.
