500 artistes from three States to take part in a national festival, which begins on Monday. KANNUR: A two-day national folklore fest will begin at Sreekantapuram here on February 11 under the joint auspices of the South Zone Cultural Centre (SZCC), Thanjavur, S.E.S. College, Sreekantapuram and Sreekantapuram Higher Secondary School. The organisers said that over 500 folklore artistes from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala would participate in the festival. K.V. Philomina, executive member of the SZCC, said that the cultural folk forms to be performed at the festival included Margamkali, Thiruyuzhichil, Kanyarkali, Kalaripayattu, Irulanritham, Mudiyattam, Mulayattam, Perunthattam, Mangalamkali, Charadupinnikkali, Oppana, Duffmuttu and Erattakudan. She said that seminars to be conducted in connection with the festival at the Sreekantapuram Community Hall were aimed at creating greater awareness on folklore studies. The festival would be inaugurated by SZCC Director K.V. Giridhar. K.C. Joseph, MLA, would preside over the function. Kannur University Vice-Chancellor P. Chandramohan would inaugurate the closing ceremony on February 12.
