NAMAKKAL: Union Minister of State for Law K. Venkatapathy stressed the need for improving infrastructure including road and sanitation in Kolli Hills. Participating in the valedictory of the Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign and Exhibition held at Kolli Hills on Friday, the Minister asked the district administration to improve the facilities in schools to enable the children in the hills to access education. He appealed to the banks to provide education loans to students to pursue higher education. The Minister said that the Centre was computerising all the courts in the country. Mr. Venkatapathy said that the exhibition was organised to make people aware of various programmes implemented by the Central and State governments. FocusOrganisers said that a special focus was given for the Right to Information Act and National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme during the event, organised by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting through the Press Information Bureau, Chennai. The National Rural Health Mission and Sarva Siksha Abhiyan were also highlighted. The Central and State government departments, non-governmental organisations, voluntary organisations and self-help groups had put up stalls in the exhibition. DisplayThe State Government departments including employment, tourism, adi dravidar and tribal welfare, health, co-operative, social welfare and animal husbandry displayed information about various schemes. The District Rural Development Agency, Mahalir Thittam, Indo-US project for child labour abolition, Valarkalvi project, Integrated Child Development Scheme unit, several banks and Life Insurance Corporation of India also participated. The Directorate of Field Publicity conducted grass-root level information dissemination programmes in several villages as part of the campaign. The Minister distributed welfare assistance to the tune of Rs. 64 lakh to beneficiaries selected under various schemes. Collector G. Sundaramurthi presided. MLAs Ponnusamy and Ramasamy, Press Information Bureau Deputy Director General Ganesan and senior officials were present.
