BANGALORE: A group of leaders from different fields had organised a function to mark the golden jubilee celebrations of the first elected communist government of the country in Kerala. This Government, which was in power for only 28 months, was led by E.M.S. Namboodiripad in 1957. The celebrations will be held on February 17. Giving details of the function to presspersons here on Saturday, convenor of the ‘EMS Government’s Golden Jubilee Committee’ K. Prakash said the EMS Government had taken some landmark decisions on developing human resources through socio-economic empowerment, poverty alleviation and regular employment which even today stood out as a model. This was known as the Kerala model of Human Development Index and continued to be a benchmark in the country, he added. Some of the laws enacted by the EMS Namboodiripad Government such as in land reforms were still relevant. The celebration will addressed by Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achutanandan. Jnan Pith Award winner U.R. Ananthamurthy, writer and thinker Baraguru Ramachandrappa and the former president of the Nataka Academy K. Maralusiddappa. Event co-convener Vijoo Krishnan said the construction of EMS Bhavan would begin soon.
