Admission forms to be distributed from March


Three-day flower show begins on February 24

Seminars, various competitions planned


MAHE: Puducherry Health Minister E. Valsaraj has said that the Kendriya Vidyalaya sanctioned to this Union Territory enclave of Puducherry will start admissions from the next academic year.

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, the Minister said that on Friday, a three-member team of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) led by KVS Assistant Commissioner E. Prabhakar visited the 4.5-acre land at Chembra here, which had been identified for developing the school.

In the first year there would be classes from Class I to Class V in the Central School and each class would have 40 students.

Makeshift classrooms

Admission forms would be distributed from March this year, Mr. Valsaraj said. The Minister added that admissions would be as per KVS norms.

Initially the classrooms would be set up in makeshift facilities on the plot, Mr. Valsaraj said.

Flower show

The Minister also said that all arrangements were being taken to hold the annual flower show here.

The ninth Flower Show to be held by the Puducherry Agricultural Department here would begin here on February 24.

Agriculture Minister V. Vaidyalingam would inaugurate the three-day event at the College Ground here.

Compensation

The inaugural function would be followed by distribution of compensation to farmers who suffered crop damages due to bud rot disease. Subsidy to buy motor pumps too will be distributed. There would be competitions for selecting Pushparaja and Pushparani on the first day of the flower show.

Seminars on organic farming, cultivation of medicinal plants, and generation of fuel from waste would be organised on February 25.

Painting competitions for students, recipe competitions for women and contests for selecting best farmer, home garden, banana growing, vegetable garden, tapioca garden and coconut garden would also be organised as part of the show.

Variety of stalls

The organisers of the show said that there would be various stalls for aquariums, vermi-compost, handicrafts, nurseries and medicinal plants.

Cultural programmes would also be organised daily during the flower show, they said.
