BERHAMPUR: A workshop on breast cancer awareness was organised in the Sashibhusan Rath women’s college in the city on Saturday to observe Cancer survivors day’. This workshop was organised jointly by the ‘Mission Kalam’ and surgery department of MKCG medical college. Within next few months they want to educate around 10,000 women regarding the threat of breast cancer. The workshop in the women’s college was attended by the students of the college and its faculty. R.M.Tripathy, M.C.Dandapat and R.N.Mangual from surgery department of MKCG medical college attended the workshop as experts explained ways to detect it early to save life as well as disfigurement due to surgery. The reasons behind rise in breast cancer could be attributed to delay in child birth, fewer children and shorter duration of breast feeding as more and more and women have started to work outside homes rather than becoming housewives. Although Mammography which is X-ray of the breast or examination by an expert at regular intervals can lead to early detection of breast cancer, it was not a practical way. So, the experts taught the participants the technique of self examination.
